Publishing a new blog post, Facebook status update, Tweet, or even a Google Plus update is a bit like sending out a signal into the universe  hoping that someone will see your update and interact with you. You will never know for sure who is paying attention to your message and what they want to hear from you in order to start communicating with you.

Sometimes, a new social media marketing update is more than a well planned shot into the unknown. Did you know that there are ways to help you message spread and get heard by more people in your target market and it is really not that complicated as you think?

Create a schedule

When I start working in the mornings, I take 15 minutes to publish my latest blog post on all the various social media channels that I target (Twitter, LinkedIn Groups, and Google+). At the moment, I’m using Hootsuite together with a couple of custom tools to manage my social media profiles, because it is more convenient and faster than having to login into every profile separately. Hootsuite also provides the added advantage of being able to schedule posts and updates, enabling me to schedule certain updates from a few accounts and profiles throughout the day.

I will publish my latest blog post on my Twitter profile before 8:30 AM, but schedule it again to be Tweeted later the day. By republishing a link to my content throughout the day, I am giving it a second chance to attract interested visitors in real-time.

Content marketing strategy

As part of my content marketing strategy, I write and publish a few guest blog posts and articles on various digital marketing related blogs  and article directories. When one of those articles and blog posts goes live I want to leverage that content for my own digital marketing and brand building campaign. I schedule out that content throughout the day and I give each piece of content a moment to shine and attract the right attention of the people I am targeting.

Doing it this way allows me to keep a steady stream of content going live each day, a must for an optimized social media marketing strategy and for personal reputation management. If you don’t have enough content you own to share everyday, publish other relevant and unique content to fill in the gaps.

In order to see an update on a social media channel, a member of your network and audience has to be logged in to the channel and actively look at the news feed when your update goes live. A few seconds sooner or later and you might miss them entirely. Posting content during the day gives you a solid chance to interact and engage with your audience.
