If you own a website, blog, or an e-commerce site and you are interested in online marketing to attract more visitors, have you every considered digital marketing? Yes, there are certain online marketing strategies that costs an arm and a leg and it all depends on what you want to achieve, but it doesn’t mean you have to spend a fortune to get the ball rolling.

There’s a couple of digital marketing methods that you can use with a small budget.  Even though these techniques can be cost-effective, please note that to get the best ROI requires an optimized strategy to get targeted results. In the first part of this blog series I will cover 3 methods that you can use straight away. Find the methods below.

  • Blogging
  • Press releases
  • Social bookmarking

Blogging

Blogging is a highly effective method that you can use to attract targeted visitors and to help your website with increased rankings on the search engines.  If you don’t want to host a blog on your own domain, use a free blogging service such as WordPress.com or Blogger where you can create and host your blog for free.  If you are planning a heavy blogging strategy, try to get a dedicated domain for your blog or host it on a sub domain of your website. In most of my social media marketing strategies, a blog is the centre point of the digital marketing campaign as you can demonstrate thought leadership on your blog and it will be the vocal point of the overall strategy.

Once you have your blog up and running, the trick to successful blogging is to post interesting blog posts that your readers will find interesting.  The content that you publish should always be deemed informational and useful to your blog visitors.

Press Release

A well written press release is always a good way to spread interesting news and information about your website and services. A press release is an announcement which is written for the media and contains information about your website. You can get a freelance writer that has experience in writing press releases to help you with the writing of this for your website and business. There’s many “freelancer” channels available online where you can search for a freelance writer within your price range.  Once you have your press release, you can submit it to various PR channels online.

Search engines picks up press releases quickly from trusted PR sites which ultimately means that your optimized, keyword rich press release have a good chance of being indexed quickly.

Social bookmarking

Social bookmarking is an easy way to get your content indexed.  There are millions of users using social bookmarking channels where they save valuable and interesting content that they find everyday on the web.  Most of the authoritive bookmarking channels are public and Google indexes links on some of these channels quickly. When you bookmark various sites on these channels such as Digg and StumbleUpon, your content stands a good chance of being picked up by the major search engines. Social bookmarking can become quite time-consuming so try to limit the amount of time you spend on these Web 2.0 sites.

In the next part of this series we will look at other cost-effective methods of marketing your online presence.
